Porcelain Laminate Veneers to Correct Shape

Porcelain laminate veneers are thin (.5 mm to 1.5mm) layers of porcelain that are bonded onto the teeth. They are useful for changing the shape and/or color of teeth that are otherwise in good condition.

A thin layer of the enamel of the teeth is removed in order to allow room for the porcelain. Since all of the work is done in enamel, anesthetic is not usually needed.

After the veneer is fabricated at the laboratory, the tooth is dried and conditioned with a weak acid to ready it for bonding of the veneer. A plastic strip is sometimes used to separate the teeth to prevent the bonding agent from getting between the teeth.
