ESTHETIC DENTISTRY

There are many conditions which affect the esthetics of a smile. When considering what looks pleasing to the eye, the shape, color, position and framing (character of the lips and gums) of each tooth is of critical importance.

Here are some examples of these factors adversely affecting esthetics.

Unsightly teeth

These teeth are unsightly due to the discolorations and the worn off and chipped edges. (13K jpeg)However, the posion of the teeth and the pleasent shape of the lips mean that a favorable result can be obtained by placing crowns (caps) or veneers on the teeth

Gummy smile and poor gumline contour

This smile is unsightly because too much of the gum tissue is exposed above the top teeth and the gums do not fill the spaces between the teeth adequately. (13K jpeg)

Tetracycline staining of the teeth, tooth malpositioning, gum recession and improper lip form. (9K jpeg) This case is much more difficult since the teeth are not the only problem. Correction with braces and gum surgery would be needed as well as crowns or veneers.
